Design Brief
CoffeeBased is a manufacturer that transforms spent coffee grounds from corporate waste into bioplastics for coffee corner products. Their furniture panels were sustainably optimized and a condiment organizer was designed as a proof of concept to showcase the material’s practical application.

The sustainable requirements were based on the observation that, in the Netherlands, furniture panels are almost always incinerated at end-of-life. Therefore, the proposed materials were selected to be “okay to burn.” The new panel increases waste content by 83% and bio-based content by 12%, while potentially reducing VOC emissions by 1%.
